4K 60Hz, YUV 4:4:4 & 4:2:2 Upscaling reasonably fast + DSC
As you can tell from this reports data, I am in 12Bit HDMI 4:2:2, This is the best mode for HDMI to be in high quality HDR because at 4:4:4 only 8Bit is available,
If i had a faster display, I'd need HDMI 1.4a, Due to the limits of support for DSC! Is it not possible for AMD & NVidia to support DSC through CPU & GPU on the display side?
Without undue latency introduction, I would also forward my SSAA Scaler for upscaling the precision of displays that need speed, With a good Display Scaler Product..

Upscaling Colour strategy : RS
Upscaling has made me a fan of blending, GIMP does everything in 32Bit, Now jpgs are 16Bit, But I upscale & blend,
This allows a smooth blend & I imagine a smooth dithering of palette in 16Bit, Allowing more perceived smooth details..
However in 10Bit or FRC Dithered displays, The output is higher bit depth,..
I highly recommend High Bit Depth blends for upscaling, Even BiLinear blending..
When you save a jpg or texture with 8bit palette the action of high bit depth blending would use Dithering,
Dithering would save some processing time on frame presentation,
If you blended the dithering sub pixel with Super-Sampling Anti-Aliasing SSAA in high bit depth,
On final output..
That itself is appealing if the GPU cannot handle HDR Textures..
Alternatively We would upscale the jpg content directly into a higher resolution & Blend / SSAA Between each pixel in HDR,
The use of protocol 1 or 2 depends on the support of HDR Textures,..
However we can still use FRC Dithering on final output & therefore stay in 8Bit.. But with a colour relational LUT to justify our claim to present a realistic HDR..
Process:
Presentation of video sequence:
JPG content
Upscale into 10Bit with SSAA & Blending
FRC or direct 10Bit presentation
