"Firefighters say they are stretched to capacity as they battle to contain five wildfires around Los Angeles, which are burning a ring of flames around some of the area’s most iconic neighborhoods. Here’s what to know about the active fires as of 6 p.m. Thursday local time.
Palisades Fire: The most extensive of the fires, it has burned through more than 19,970 acres in and around Pacific Palisades. In a news conference, Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Kristin Crowley said the blaze has destroyed at least 5,300 structures since Tuesday.
Eaton Fire: On the city’s east side, near Pasadena, the fire has so far killed five people and burned through 13,690 acres without any containment, Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone said in a news conference.
Lidia Fire: Firefighters have contained 60 percent of the fire, after it emerged in Antelope Valley on Wednesday afternoon. According to Cal Fire’s latest update Thursday evening, it had burned through 348 acres.
Hurst Fire: In the north, near San Fernando, it has spread to more than 855 acres. According to Cal Fire’s latest update, it is 10 percent contained.
Kenneth Fire: The fire was burning about 50 acres in the Calabasas and Hidden Hills areas when it was first reported around 2:30 p.m. Fanned by strong winds, the fast-growing inferno had ballooned to 960 acres less than three hours later, according to CalFire."
