I have seen many users, almost every day, post about their scroll wheel changing from "Ratchet" to "Free spin" intermittently. I had this issue also until I figured out the device disconnects or goes to sleep after a matter of time without use. It is necessary to press a key on the keyboard or move the mouse back and forth to wake them and connect.

So, if you change the middle button on the mouse to perform a certain task other than the default "Shift wheel mode," and then the device times out (enters sleep), when you set down at the computer and press the middle button without first moving the mouse back and forth, the "Shift wheel mode" gets changed.

What I'm suggesting is to include an explanation of device timeout (sleep) and how to activate it again by moving the mouse back and forth or pressing a key on the keyboard in the "Getting Started" documentation. This would solve this issue for so many users.
