The backlighting should not turn off when the keyboard is plugged in. The keyboard has far too much light pollution emitting from the sides of the keys. The default brightness of the keyboard should be user adjustable, due to the light pollution from the sides of the keys i always have to turn the backlighting down to the lowest brightness setting.
