when I press the corresponding buttons on the keyboard (w/ the correct settings) it does not register (i.e., if I press the volume bar it will minimize the apps open)

I have the wireless USB receiver connected to a dongle. the dongle is connected to my macbook pro silicon via USB-c. This may be a problem?
