MX series Bolt/Unifying incompatible devices
So I bought what I considered to be the latest and greatest mouse and keyboard which are often advertised together, the MX Keys keyboard and MX Master S3 mouse. But it turns out that they are not compatible with each other and cannot share the same dongle despite the fact that the keyboard dongle is literally called a unifying dongle but it seems that this is the outgoing technology and the newer one is the Bolt dongle. It took me while to work out why they couldn't see each other. After a bit of internet scouring I came across a lot of angry customers in exactly the same position as me. During this search I discovered that there is an MX Keys for Business which is actually compatible with the Bolt dongle but for some unfathomable reason is only available to business customers. Fortunately I have an amazon business account so I will return the keyboard to the store from which I bought it and purchase the compatible version.
My feedback is that you should really work on your branding. Perhaps the newer ones should move away from the MX family? Or even better the Bolt dongle should be backwards compatible with older keyboards. Why is the Bolt compatible keyboard only available to business when the mouse is available in retail stores? Why are the not named more appropriately? I mean nobody would guess that "for business" means that it is a better model. Business and regular consumers alike both use keyboards in the same fashion and many have the same requirements of dongle sharing, particularly laptop users where USB ports may be at a premium.
Anyway I can buy the keyboard that I need so will ultimately be satisfied but you really must see the folly in this? It's down to either your tech guys or your branding/marketing guys to solve this or you'll have a lot more unhappy customers than I've already come across. Not to mention the resource hit on your support services from customers who can't get the two to play nicely together.
I wish you all the best in resolving this
